audio gets stuck

sometimes my audio get stucked and I'm obliged to reboot to fix the issue. This happens evenry now and then, it's not associated to any specific procedure...
I've installed alsa-oss and alsa-utils, the daemons are the following:
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng !network netfs crond hal dbus gdm @alsa networkmanager !@acpid !@cpufreqd @laptop-mode)

the pc is a dell e4300 laptop

any idea?

(never had this problem with ubuntu)

Why? Use it, and you screw up dmix.

Set your apps to *only* use ALSA, and not output to "hw:whatever".

They should go through e.g. "default" (2 speakers) or "surround51".

Then everything will be happy in your audio-land. For more info, see my previous rants about audio.

Ubuntu uses pulseaudio, which helps some audio issues (such as dmix), but also can cause bugs itself. Overall, you're better off without pulseaudio.

Re: audio gets stuck

this not related with audio but i noticed that you have in DAEMONS ...hal dbus... which is the wrong order. it should be dbus hal

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

because hal already starts dbus before and is like doing: dbus hal dbus. you didn't see it failed?

Re: audio gets stuck

according to the arch linux beginner's guide..

DAEMONS=(syslog-ng network crond alsa dbus hal gdm)

Tip: If you prefer to log into the console and manually start X, exclude the gdm daemon.
Note: HAL relies on and will automatically start dbus. However, some users have reported a failure with networkmanager unless dbus is implicitly specified in the DAEMONS array. When adding dbus to the array, ensure it directly precedes HAL.
