TV-out question, xrnadr on xf86-video-ati

Hi,
I have a Radeon 9600 (r300) with a S-Video out connector hooked up to my tv.
Basic tv-out works fine, without me having to do anything to begin with. (2.6.33, kms, +latest git drivers)

What I'm after is a way of configuring my setup by using xrandr to achieve something which ati calls 'theater-mode' with windows.
Meaning, that only fullscreen video (the overlay) gets outputted to the tv.

As my tv is very old, it has problems displaying my 'complete' desktop, this is the only satisfactory way for me to use tv-out.
The alternative is positioning my video-player-window in the center of my desktop, and to use a tool such as arandr (xrandr frontend) to adjust the 'part' of my complete desktop to overlap said video-player window and output that via s-video-out, which you can imagine isn't very 'user-friendly'...

Any ideas? I've searched around for solutions, but information on tv-out using s-video is very old and deprecated in parts OR concerns 'modern' setups with digital-flatscreen tvs and dvi/hdmi woes. roll
