Microphone (Line-In) on Asus P7P55D doesn't work

Hey everyone,

I'm currently using an Asus P7P55D Motherboard. Everything seems to work fine except for the microphone. I can't use Skype or any other software (like Audacity) to record my voice. Google told me there is a bug in the driver of my chipset:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … bug/474359

Someone on this page wrote: "Please install linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic-generic and reboot."
This seems to do the trick for Ubuntu. But I'm not familiar with Ubuntu, I doesn't really know what kind of backport of alsa is meant. Is there a way to get the mic working with Arch? Is there anyone who is using Arch and has the same chipset?

Help is appreciated!

best regards

Re: Microphone (Line-In) on Asus P7P55D doesn't work

you say everything works fine... well for me it's a nightmare. both nic interfaces are not responding, as well as my intel nic doesn't work either. "eth0: link down".

if i disable the nics and the audio cip in the bios udev will hang at startup. it's so frustrating... any ideas? how did you configure your board, what modules did you blacklist. i've read somewhere, that disabling the asus_atk.... helps in some cases, need to find that again. some pointers would be really helpful.

lenk: No, I couldn't get it working yet. sad

eNTi: What mb do you have? On the Asus P7P55D there is only one nic, but you are talking about two? I haven't used any special configuration, everything worked just out of the box.

Re: Microphone (Line-In) on Asus P7P55D doesn't work

This is an old post but I found it while searching for an answer to the same problem and now that I've found the solution I think the right thing is to share it.

To solve it, just open alsamixer and mute Smart 5.1

So simple yet and fustrating...
