I'm having trouble getting fullscreen video on an external monitor with my laptop. Whenever I fullscreen mplayer it shows up on the laptop (LVDS1 to xrandr) instead of the external (VGA1), regardless of which monitor the video started on.
It seems that because xrandr just create one large virtual resolution on screen 0 instead of creating multiple screens mplayer is just defaulting to LVDS1 for fullscreen. None of mplayers options i.e. xineramascreen help.
This is using configurless xorg 1.8 with intel KMS and xrandr 1.3.2. Window manager is Xmonad, no DE.

Have you tried to make your VGA1 monitor primary ?
Something like :
$ xrandr --output VGA1 --primaryshould help perhaps.

I tried that and I also tried turning off LVDS1 completely and only having VGA1 on, but in that case telling mplayer to fullscreen spawned a floating 1024x768 size video on the external monitor!
EDIT: Doh, I had compiled mplayer without xinerama support, fixed ![]()
