Its KDE.

I installed autofs4 and put it in the modules list.

What else can I do?

Re: Automounting CD/DVD (SOLVED)

So it's simply not mounted at all?  Not visible in Dolphin and doesn't show up via mount command?

Re: Automounting CD/DVD (SOLVED)

KDE is using hal for mounting, do you have it listed in with your daemons in rc.conf?

Re: Automounting CD/DVD (SOLVED)

if you are using KDM you don't need to do anything but if you use xinitrc method you need to use consolekit.

exec ck-launch-session wm

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

Re: Automounting CD/DVD (SOLVED)

I use KDM

And there is HAL in my daemons list.

-------------------

I repeat. It is visible after restart if I leave the CD inside my drive.

Could it be group membership?  What groups is your user a member of?

I tried it without KDM. Still no success.

One more thing. Previously I said that its working after restart. Now I must add that its NOT working. Its just showing CD label in dolphin and displaying some sort of error when I try to open it.

I think I missed something badly. Am I supposed to create a folder before seting automount ?

Re: Automounting CD/DVD (SOLVED)

You shouldn't need to do anything particular besides what's already mentioned. It's not that you for some reason have some CD/DVD entry in /etc/fstab which now interfere with auto mounting?

So, cdrom and dvd is commented. Is it ok ?

How to interpret your last message? Did you find out the reason for why it didn't work?

Re: Automounting CD/DVD (SOLVED)

Here s how I solved problem:

Its taken from Arch wiki...

Auto-mounting fails
Inserted CD/DVD does not get recognized by HAL

If inserted CDs/DVDs are not recognized by HAL (no icon on the desktop or notification), check /etc/fstab and remove the lines for the optical drives.

If that does not work, it may be because your device is not "checked" for automount by HAL. I am not sure why but you may have a file under /etc/hal/fdi/information/media-check-disable-storage_model_$YOUR_DEVICE.fdi which should have a content similar to:
File: /etc/hal/fdi/information/media-check-disable-storage_model_$YOUR_DEVICE.fdi

<deviceinfo version="0.2">
   <device>
     <match key="info.udi" string="/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/storage_model_DV$
       <merge key="storage.media_check_enabled" type="bool">false</merge>
     </match>
   </device>
</deviceinfo>

If the key is set to false (it was in my case), all you have to do is to change the value of the key to true.

Re: Automounting CD/DVD (SOLVED)

For me, either version worked and I ended up uncommenting cd/dvd lines in fstab, which finally allowed me to mount CDs and DVDs.
