slow network transfer rates from fedora to Arch

I have a wrt150n router with dd-wrt installed and all the ports are in use:
(0. modem)
1. Fedora (my "dump")
2. *Arch (My actual machine)
3. *CentOS LAMP
4. Debian
*note: the Arch and CentOS machine have the exact same hardware configuration : p4 2ghz, 1gb RAM. The only difference is the Arch has 400gb hdd ReiserFS compared to 40gb Ext4 of the Centos.

I'm trying to transfer files from the fedora machine to the Arch machine but its incredibly slow. If I transfer the same file (test file 6gb) from the fedora to the centos I get fullspeed 2.5 MB/s . If I transfer the same file to the Arch it goes at a maximum of 500 kB/s, KDE hangs, and the hdd makes noise likes its constantly writing info but nothing is happening (router lights are dont flash and activity from the fedora machine to the Arch goes to nearly nothing) noise (if i don't do the transfer I can go on days with the Arch without having to reset)  .

on the Arch internet speed is also considerably lower (10 mbit/s slower).

I have disabled ipv6 on arch.
I have restarted the router.

ethtool eth0 indicates a connection of 100MB/s . controller is : Intel 82801DB

What else can I do to improve the speed?

cheers!

Re: slow network transfer rates from fedora to Arch

I fixed the slow internet connection (removed my router from /etc/resolv.conf) .

But LAN speed is still slow.

Re: slow network transfer rates from fedora to Arch

Try testing raw connection speed with something like iperf.  Try looking at your CPU usage; see if ssh is using up a lot of CPU cycles.  Look harddisk throughput with something like iotop.  See where the issue is.

Re: slow network transfer rates from fedora to Arch

thanks pseudonomous

I played around and this is what i got:
the LAN is a bit faster, but then drops down to slow speed again after a couple of minutes of transfer, but will then go up to 2.8Mib/s and stay there (or so it seems)
- is that normal?
I'm still not getting full speed LAN access.

Also, I noticed that the LAN speed goes down to 100KiB/s if I am doing something (for example opening a folder)
ssh uses about 5% of cpu.
harddisk is faster then that (WD AAJS)
