Cannot shutdown the computer via XBMC

I cannot shutdown my HTPC via XBMC. When I try to shut it down, I just ends up back in the shell. Im not running any WM and I autostart XBMC via .xinitrc so I have to make a hard shutdown everytime.

Dunno what to do?

Re: Cannot shutdown the computer via XBMC

is your xbmc user in the power group?

do you start it via ck-launch in xinitrc?

my htpc has both of these things and it shuts down fine from xbmc; i was actually surprised it worked so quickly out-of-the-box (i expected some sudo hackery to be required...).

Never heard of ck-launch.I had a look at the website, but it wasnt much of a helper. How does it work?

Re: Cannot shutdown the computer via XBMC

What brisbin suggested is the way to go; maybe the wiki page is a bit outdated, but that's how it's working here too. I can restart Xbmc, shutdown and reboot (and suspend, but haven't tried that) the system from within Xbmc, thanks to using ck-launch to start my session.

Re: Cannot shutdown the computer via XBMC

exec /usr/bin/ck-launch-session xbmc

That worked. smile

Re: Cannot shutdown the computer via XBMC

Ever since I upgraded XBMC to 10.0 the problem is back. I have the same installation with Arch.

Re: Cannot shutdown the computer via XBMC

There have been topics about that on the forum; I suggest you perform a search.

Hint: look in xbmc's optdepends.

Re: Cannot shutdown the computer via XBMC

well... make sure you have upower installed... (and udisks).
and also check if the powerbutton default action is "shutdown" and not "exit" (xbmc settings)

Re: Cannot shutdown the computer via XBMC

Same problem here since an upgrade to the recent xbmc version.

- hal removed
- udisks and upower installed
- my user is in the 'power' group

I start X via /etc/inittab:

x:5:respawn:/bin/su lynix -l -c "/bin/bash --login -c 'startx xbmc'>/dev/null 2>&1"

and my .xinitrc is:

#!/bin/sh

nvidia-settings -l

if [ "$2" == "xbmc" ]; then
    # start XBMC
    exec ck-launch-session /usr/bin/dbus-launch --exit-with-session /usr/bin/xbmc --standalone -fs --debug &>$HOME/.xsession-errors
else
    # start openbox session
    exec ck-launch-session openbox-session &>$HOME/.xsession-errors
fi

Any hints what could be wrong? smile

Re: Cannot shutdown the computer via XBMC

Not the same problem. I started a thread about this a while ago, it's a problem with ck-launch-session registering your auto-login session as remote, thus not granting shutdown/reboot/suspend/... powers.

Open a separate topic if it doesn't work. Good luck.
