Hello guys,
I'd like to open all mms related links in firefox with mplayer.
Therefore I added the following entries within about:config
network.protocol-handler.app.mms;/usr/bin/mplayer
network.protocol-handler.external.mms;true
network.protocol-handler.warn-external.mms;false
Normally this should be enough but in my case it isn't working. Any suggestions I could try out?
Best regards

Obviously one need to install some bunch of gnome dependencies. It's explained here and here.
So the old method with the config entries doesn't work anymore but I can't believe that there's only the way with gnome tools. As I don't use gnome I would prefer a cleaner method.
Any ideas?

I can watch mms stream videos with :
gecko-mediaplayer wich depends on gnome-mplayer and dbus-glib
gnome-mplayer which depends on mplayer, dbus-glib, libnotify and libgpod.
Despite its name gnome-mplayer doesn't depends on gnome.

Hello berbae,
this opens the stream directly in firefox?
A gui is not necessary for my usage. I simply want to redirect the mms-link to mplayer and watch it within a new window.
regards

You can try to disable player embedding in it's configuration dialog.

I had the same problem as you and fixed it using the firefox-3.5 specific fix from <a href="http://kb.mozillazine.org/Register_protocol#Firefox_3.5_specific__.28works_without_installed_Gnome_libraries.29">here (mozillazine)</a>
The first time I opened a new mms link it asked me what to do, I told it to use mplayer every time and it does
I'm using firefox-3.6.3, I guess it's not that 3.5 specific.
Happy computergeek gaming girl. And those are analog games, mind you, not analog computers though.
