Virtual box with arch as guest os

Hi,
I'm running arch as a guest os on virtual box. I'm planning on installing the virtual box guest addition tools and from what I've read from their documentation an from searching the arch forum I still don't know if i really need to install the dkms  package on arch(especially when it is marked as unsupported see http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=11657 ).
Can anyone help me understand if I must add/install dkms in order to run the VB tools ?

Re: Virtual box with arch as guest os

If you want to install guest additions in your arch guest os you just need to run the appropriate script found in the guest additions iso provided by the virtualbox host.

I have never heard of that package before so I can assure you that you do not need it to install the guest additions.

As I said, you just need to run the script. Look at the title of the link you provided - it is about linux hosts.

Hello, I ran into this problem myself not so long ago, you have to install :

# pacman -S kernel26-headers

No, you don't need DKMS.

Just follow the Arch wiki:

http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Vir … _Additions

Starting with:

You will require gcc and make if you do not already have them so install them typing the following as root:

# pacman -S gcc make

Check out my website for info on the Arch Linux Installer

Hi, I need to install DKMS-VIRTUALBOX from aur but I'm having a forbidden signal from the server, I'm planning to email the PKGBUILD author for aid but in the while do you have any hint on how/where to download the dkms-virtualbox package source?
Many thanks.

You don't need the VirtualBox additions, but they enable handy functionality like changing the screen resolution when you resize the window, and not having to lock/unlock the mouse.

Re: Virtual box with arch as guest os

Hi. I installed an Arch Linux on a Virtual Vox on Windows XP and most things have gone great... I wrote a blog post describing how Arch runs well on few resources using VBox and comparing it to Miscrosoft Virtual Machine 200 7 (which suckles) tongue and also gave some begginers tips based on my experience. I hope someone finds it useful
