for the devs... will wine ever be 64bit for arch?

ive had so many issues with 32bit binaries and wine running on 64bit arch..so much breakage (since it was from archfr repos, unofficial) i ended up formating, reinstalling and installing virtualbox from pkgbuilds 64bit and running a tiny win xp image for a few things i like..

it took like 30min to install everything 32bit i needed to run win 32bit on 64,

wasnt worth the time, effort 2nd time around only official arch repos for me for now on..

but my question still stands.. is wine 64bit at all? or just not for arch 64/arch in general?

There is a start of a 64 bit WINE upstream, but it only runs 64bit applications so is probably not what you want...  If running bin32-wine did not work for your application, then compatibility in WINE is likely the issue...

Re: for the devs... will wine ever be 64bit for arch?

There is a 64bit version of wine that is unstable, new, and ONLY runs 64-bit windows programs.
Since it has no real use, it is a better idea to use the 32-bit version.

Other distros that package a 64-bit version are really just packaging the 32-bit version (like bin32-wine).

From what I've heard, there's progress upstream to make 64-bit and 32-bit Wine coexist. Once that happens, it should get into the x86_64 repos, too.

It's still not going to be multi-lib though. This isn't to say that a 64 bit Wine won't make it into the repos; In fact, it probably would. But, a multi-lib Wine doesn't work with the current Arch philosophy.

Re: for the devs... will wine ever be 64bit for arch?

From my discussions with someone who wanted us to add it to arch-games (since we have bin32-wine), the 64bit version of wine would depend on bin32-wine to be useful.
