mac address changing

Hi all,
i was struggling with my home pc after a recent update, because firstly hal was not starting, now network doesn't work. It's very strange, everything is well configured..e.xcept that i noticed that the eth0 of my pc is something strange: 00:00:00:00:XX:XX...that is only 4 non-zero positions!! can it be?

How could it have been happened? i found the old mac address from my mac-filtering table from the router!! should i restore the old one?

Could you please help me...in this issue?
