Printer prints one job, then needs to be reconnected

Very weird stuff. I have this printer here, a Samsung ML-1630. When I bought it a year ago it worked perfectly fine, it's a very nice printer. I recently installed arch64 and now I have a rather annoying problem. I added the printer via cups like I always do, everything is fine. I print something, the printer does its job, alright. Then I want to print another document and nothing happens. Nada. Cups shows me the job is finished, but the printer just didn't do anything. Now when I disconnect the USB cable from the printer and reconnect it again, it will again print another document without complaint. And that's how it is, every time I want to print something I first have to dis- and reconnect the printer. What's wrong here?

What is even more disturbing is that my girlfriend can print however many documents she wants in a row - she has got an Ubuntu laptop which has access to the printer over the network because I shared it. So I assume it has something to do with how the job is given to the printer, but I have no clue how to debug this, help! big_smile

Likely has to do with your choice of print driver. Using Gutenprint is usually a good start. OpenPrinting has a pretty good data of what drivers work best with a lot of printers.

I pretty much only had one choice for the driver and that is splix, which is normal for Samsung I think. That's also what openprinting.org says, I don't think that's the problem.

I would investigate which driver is being used from the ubuntu. Perhaps even try adding the printer a second time as a network printer from 127.0.0.1

kelnoky, did you manage to resolve the problem?

I have the exact problem with samsung 2010P printer, I'm using splix as well.

Hm. I installed the gnome cups utility that is recommended for alternatives the the localhost cups configuration and deleted and added my printer again. Till now it seems to work. Weird stuff.

Re: Printer prints one job, then needs to be reconnected

I have been having the same problems with my Samsung ML-2010 printer.
Before posting I thought I'd better collect the errors I get, but to my surprise I now find that the printer is printing the CUPS test page with both splix and foomatic drivers.
I have also tried printing a web page from firefox which also seems to work.
Very strange indeed.
I have the usblp module blacklisted at the moment which seems to work for me.
