ALSA issue

I cannot get sound to work through all the speakers on my laptop, even though the alsamixer shows Master, PCM, front, Surround, Center, and LFM.

The only manageable channels are master and front.   PCM is not mutable and does not actually change the sound at all.  Surround, Center, and LFM are mutable but no sound is coming out of the top two speakers or sub-woofer underneath.

Currently I have some settings in my /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf file as such:

options snd-hda-intel model=3stack-6ch
options snd-pcsp index=2

The settings in my /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf are as follows:

alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
alisa sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel

And my /etc/rc.conf has the following modules loaded:

acpi-cpufreq cpufreq_ondemand soundcore snd-hda-intel snd-pcm-oss

any help or advice on this issue would be helpful as ive sort of hit a wall on what to try.

Yeah, I leave it muted for headphones, but I've been using the sound through the Master for a while.  Its the rest of the speakers and PCM that I'm having trouble figuring out ><!
