Brother MFC490cw scanner?

I have a Brother MFC490cw multifunction printer on my network and was wondering if it is possible to use the scanner on it? It works really well on my wife's Windows box - just open Paint and import the scan. I've installed the printer driver for it but was wondering how hard it would be to use th scanner on my Arch Linux box?
