Freeze on setting console mode

Hello,

my laptop sometimes freezes on setting the console mode (utf-8).
I can't see any correlation with my actions before shutting down; the only action I take between turning it on and the freeze is choosing Arch in Grub but there doesn't seem to be any correlation between whether I press enter or just let it time out, and whether it's going to freeze.
I have a Dell Studio 1737. I think it started in december, but it seems to have been happening more often lately.

I think I might have found the offending setting thanks to these reports. I'll give my fix a few days to make sure it works (please remember the freezes only happen sometimes, not always) and post an answer.

Judging from your website you may be using some "exotic" font / locale settings.

Well, they weren't so much exotic, more of confused, I think:

LOCALE="en_US.UTF-8"
KEYMAP="us"
CONSOLEFONT="lat2-16.psfu.gz"
CONSOLEMAP="8859-2"

Or do you think it was ok, and it's pure chance that I rebooted now without freeze?

I never had any problem with mine:

Did you fix this issue, as I've posted a question in the newbie section regarding UTF-8 Random Freezes on boot. I have double checked my settings, using US English and default settings therefore. Still getting occasional freeze on boot, if I remove my keyboard and mouse this can still happen, even if I remove hotswap this seams to still happened occasionally.

Any ideas? latest kernel..

and how did you install "radeon_ucode 2-2", was this by using make, or is this a binary package requiring alteration of pacman configuration?

I tested my new config for a few days and apparently, it seems to have worked. I'll give a couple more days to new config + radeon_ucode.
