So, title says pretty much all. I'm making a game in java atm, and on my netbook just displaying a simple 400x500 images takes 0.04 seconds which is enormous. Also java reports 0 available video memory, which is weird since my netbook has a "Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950". Also, other programs seem to do fine (glxgears reports 62 fps (EDIT : I now understand this is *not* fine), and, ironically enough, online java games are lag free (EDIT : tough I've really only tested very plain games)).
I have installed the correct video driver (x86-video-intel and use the sun jdk). More details are to be found on the related question I asked on StackOverflow.
So what might possibly be the problem ?

Up. See my edits, the problem definitely isn't on java's side.
May enabling KMS during kernel bootstrap change something (I highly doubt that :s).
