Random freeze help

Recently, my system freezes randomly, I cannot do anything except reboot. I have done a full memtest86+ and it seems fine. What is the next step I should do to diagnose this?

Re: Random freeze help

there doesn't seem to be a solution yet, some days I do 5 hard resets in a row, some days none

Re: Random freeze help

I had the same problem on 2.6.32 and 2.6.33-1

It turned out to be my ath9k module on N networks.  It has been resolved here, but perhaps you should look outside the normal issues if it seems like something else.  I would have never guessed it was wireless.

Can you provide any information about what you are doing when it happens?

Re: Random freeze help

I guess it could be the wireless as well, it seems to happen when I am downloading. But I am using broadcom wl module.

Re: Random freeze help

You need to provide your video card model, driver, xorg version and which kernel you are running. Lots of freezes are x related. Xorg.log and dmesg would be helpful too.

Re: Random freeze help

Maybe this could help:
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NVI … in_general

"Try disabling RenderAccel in xorg.conf"

I may not be much of help. I try to stay away from NVIDIA cards at all cost, so I have little knowledge of them

Re: Random freeze help

I had these settings for a year and it just freezes recently, but I will give it a try.

Re: Random freeze help

Check in /var/log/pacman.log and see what packages have been upgraded around the time you started having problems. Try downgrading any likely candidates -- typically video drivers, xorg or kernel.

Re: Random freeze help

I think it's the wireless after all, I have stopped mass download, just light web browsing for today, and no signs of freeze. I am using http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=19514 maybe that is the problem.

Re: Random freeze help

i'm not using any wireless devices, maybe my ram is failing, it even froze while memtesting, i've changed the slots and ran the memtest again, it finished without any errors, i will report back if I get any freezes again, but this is very strange that everyone gets random freezes after a kernel update
