greetings,
asking for a little general advice here:
since the last few kernel versions, KMS is enabled by default at boot time. this might be a useful thing, since i never could get xrandr to work flawlessly with xorg.conf tweaking, and ctrl+alt+fx switching is faster now. but i've noticed that if KMS is enabled, switching an application to full screen mode (most of the games, dosbox etc.) results in a blank screen with backlight. so i've turned KMS off (menu.lst»kernel line»nomodeset).
my question is that are there any advantages of KMS on a graphics card this old? if so, what? as i've said before, the only thing that it fixed is that now i can use an external monitor without problems.
thanks,
bamdad
