5.1 Surround sound from OSSv4

Hi,
I just installed a clean arch64 system with ossv4.

Osstest works fine and i get audio from all the appropriate channels (5.1 surround). However, whenever I play music or a movie (using vlc or totem) I only get audio from the front 2 channels.

1) Is there some test audio I can use to make sure that 5.1 is working ?
2) If it is working, and the audio I have is simply 2 channel, is there some way of upscaling and/or mirroring the front audio to the rear speakers ?

Also, some light crackling can be heard from the speakers while playing audio, is this a known issue ?

Thanks,

Mewt

try the osstest command, if it does not play in all channels, oss is configured for stereo output, or the driver does not support multichannel.

Sorry for the lack of information, but I haven't used oss4 for quite some time...

If I remember well (I tested oss4 some time ago and now I'm using alsa ), the surround sound can be enabled using ossxmix. I have a 5.1 system too.
The little crackling is a known issue...

If you enable the "spread" option you get multichannel output. Try it while playing a song with an OSS compatible player.

Re: 5.1 Surround sound from OSSv4

Well, same problem here with a fresh OSS4 install: separate channels work while playing surround fails (mplayer):

[AO OSS] audio_setup: Failed to set audio device to 6 channels.
Failed to initialize audio driver 'oss'
Could not open/initialize audio device -> no sound.
Audio: no sound
Starting playback...

Another strange thing is that I can't switch vmix mode to multich, because it is attached to pcm0 and pcm0 is my front-panel headphone connector.

Any progress on this, mewt? smile

Change the settings with ossxmix like this. The crackling is caused by 'input-mix-mute' so mute them. Test a little ... wink

Well, I found out that my card is not supported by OSS4 yet.

Nevertheless, thanks for the hint smile
