Try a lower screen resolution. pSX does fast forward removing the framerate limitation and running at a high speed. If your computer / GPU can't go that fast, fast forward won't work. For instance with my intel integrated GPU, I can get a x2 fast forward if running pSX at 800x600, but if I run it fullscreen, I can't get it to speed up.
If you have a low-end GPU, you should try ePSXe instead, which can work on software rendering.

Yes, I've already figured out, that it was my GPU to blame. Btw, it's Intel 4500 MHD, quite a capable one.
Thank you for the advice, I'll try lowering the resolution, it is going to help, according to your experience.
Actually, fast forward button is working for me, but it speeds up only a tiny bit.

I have the same GPU and it definitely can't handle a high framerate.
You can use xrandr to change your screen's resolution to 800x600 when using pSX. Try launching this command :
`xrandr -s "800x600" ; pSX ; xrandr -s 0`
This will force pSX to use 800x600 as a maximum resolution and might give you a performance boost. If you upgraded to xorg 1.8, I can't guarantee you the result as it seems not to work anymore on my system.

Tried it. No effect. Tried even running in a tiny window with overall 640x480 - the same, as the fullscreen with 1280x800.
Pressing FF key raises fps from 60 up to 77-83 (it jumps from one to another every time).
