[SOLVED] USB 3G modem supported by network manager

Does anyone have any recommendations for a reliable, fully supported usb 3g modem? I'd need it to work out of the box with network manager. Sprint would be preferred, but any provider will be ok provided that it's reliable. Anyone have any experience with this?

Re: [SOLVED] USB 3G modem supported by network manager

I know this thread is a bit old but I'll post anyway this just in case your still looking for answers.

In denmark where I live the only 3g usb modems you can buy is Huawei modems. The older Huawei modems is supported by the Linux kernel so they work out of the box. Newer Huawei models is supported by USB_ModeSwitch wich is very easy to install and use. When you've got the modem switched into modem mode (either with the kernel or with USB_ModeSwitcher) the actual dialing is pretty straightforward and can be done by any program that supports dialing networkmanager, wvdial, etc.

So basically any Huawei 3g usb modem will work and since they are extremely popular it should not be hard to get one big_smile

Thanks!

I also mailed the networkmanager mailing list, and they recommended Sierra brand models in general and the 598U specifically.

I have owned an Huawei E220 and I have the E180 now. Both works perfectly - the only issue is that they also show up as a CD, but you don't have to do it. Just unmount it if you don't want to see it tongue
