I use pm-utils for sleeping and hibernating. Sleeping still works fine, but after upgrading to 2.6.33, on some occasions (usually with large ram usage, but I'm not sure), after pressing the hibernate button in a gnome session, the screen would turn blank with a blinking cursor and there are no more disk activities. The pm-suspend.log still shows that the hibernation is complete, but it seems that nothing ever gets written into my swap partition, which is about twice as large as my 1G ram (I know I was being too cautious...) On booting the system detects no resume image.

Thu May 6 21:09:40 CST 2010: performing hibernate
I tried uswsusp, and the system would hang at 'taking system snapshot'. I tried kernel26-bfs and kernel26-ck as well, no difference. But things do go back to normal if I downgrade to 2.6.32, so I am suspecting a kernel problem. Any tips?

Do you have a "resume" hook before "filesystems" in "HOOKS" section of an /etc/mkinitcpio.conf file?
If not, add it, and rebuild the kernel with "mkinitcpio -p kernel26" (as sudo), or with whatever preset you use.
Offline
It seems it can't even power off the machine, the problem comes 'before' resume hook.
Why i've not a clue about your issue, i use tuxonice which solved all my hibernation problems.
kernel26-ice, in aur.

I do have a resume hook, or uresume for uswsusp, when the machine hibernates successfully the wake up is absolutely normal. The only problem is when it refuses to hibernate in the first place.

Have you directly used s2disk from uswsusp?
With the nvidia driver the normal kernel suspend didn´t work for me neither.
I also don´t use pm-utils with external modules. The simple "s2disk" and "s2ram" commands are sufficient.
Most of the pm-util hacks are for the normal kernel suspend. For a not tainted kernel pm-utils works fine though.

Seems to have been fixed with the recent kernel update 2.6.33-4, but I need to test it a bit more.
