Problem with resolutions and wallpapers

Errr, this problem is very weird so I'm not sure if I will be able to explain it correctly. Let two screenshots speak by themselves:

Xfce: http://box.jisko.net/i/1c7b6c.png
GNOME: http://box.jisko.net/i/239d21.png

The wallpaper is set as "Fit the whole screen" in both screenshots, but it appears twice hmm

I couldn't take a screenshot in KDE, as this problem appears there only in the 'loading' stage.

If you need more info, ask for it. Thank you!

Re: Problem with resolutions and wallpapers

Seems that 'radeon.modeset=0' in the kernel line fixes it, but then I don't get 3D acceleration tongue

Re: Problem with resolutions and wallpapers

Are you using a laptop connected to an external monitor? If so try turning off the laptop display through the DE's display settings.

Also try running xrandr to get the name of your display (VGA, DVI, etc.) and then running, for example:

xrandr --output VGA --auto

Re: Problem with resolutions and wallpapers

Errr, no, I'm not using a laptop. I'm using an old SyncMaster 551s, connected to a Radeon 9550 through a VGA cable.

With xrandr I get this:

$ xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1024 x 768, maximum 4096 x 4096
VGA-0 connected 1024x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 267mm x 200mm
   1024x768 60.0*+
   800x600 85.1 + 72.2 75.0 60.3 56.2
   832x624 74.6
   640x480 85.0 72.8 75.0 66.7 60.0
   720x400 87.8 70.1

Because I force xorg.conf to use "1024x768", without this section:

        SubSection "Display"
                Viewport 0 0
                Depth 24
                Modes "1024x768"
        EndSubSection

It won't let me choose something over 800x600. But I know this screen really supports up to 1152x864.

Thank you.

Re: Problem with resolutions and wallpapers

Since from the looks of it you have only one monitor, why do you need the ViewPort option?  What happens if you comment that out?

Re: Problem with resolutions and wallpapers

Ok, so what is the command that is setting your backgrounds in those environments?

Are they the same command?  Or is there a script that is setting it?
