Extend ext4 partition

Is there a way to extend, or increase the size, of my / partition without shutting down? I'm at a loss of CD's here so I can't use the GParted Live CD and I have a large piece of unallocated space that comes from an unusable Windows 7.

No, stretching the partition while it is mounted won't be a good idea...
You could make a new partition. Or maybe find a usb key somewhere?

Just a tip: if you can't have a good life-saver LiveCD at hand all the time -I like very much the Gentoo based SystemRescueCD- reserver a small portion of your disk and install a distro like that there so you can allways boot from it and repair your main install (and viceversa).
Best!

Re: Extend ext4 partition

I think you can do:

# init 1

in a virtual console, and then check to make sure all drives are unmounted, and you'll be able to resize (you'll have to use the CLI utils for it though, no gparted)

edit: hmm, I think this leaves / mounted as read only though...
