I've pretty much been having sound issues since I installed Arch. For a while, all sounds worked except Flash videos. I was able to fix that by finding out that in alsamixer, the default card was set to my onboard. All I had to do was switch it over to my PCI sound card. Ever since then, that seems to have fixed that issue. After that, last Friday I had updated my system, and it had updated my kdeworkspace. After that for a few days, whenever I turned on my Computer, KDE notified me that my PCI sound card was not working, and so I had no sound. I had to fix that by running alsaconf, and setting up ALSA to use my PCI card, and also setting up Kmix to not restore the volumes on login. I had also edited /etc/modprob.d/modprobe.conf to load my PCI card first, and speakers second. I even added to /etc/rc.local to restore alsa. All of those things seemed to have work, for at least 4 days. The odd part was, after doing all of those things, upon boot, ALSA had some kind of message when starting up, which I've never been able to catch, or figure out where there would be a log that displays that information.
Now today, I turn on my Computer, upon boot ALSA didn't display that message, which gave me a sinking feeling that something may be wrong, or maybe it was just fixed. I log on, and sure enough no sound. KDE stops recognizing my card, etc. I've tried everything I did in the past, Kmix still has the same option not to restore volumes, but this time when I do alsaconf, it does everything with no error but when I load alsamixer afterwards, it still doesn't have my card as default, and I can't select it from the list. I tried rebooting once or twice, trying the same things. On the third try, it did work. ALSA displayed the error of sorts on boot, sound worked, etc.
But to be honest, I'm not satisfied with the sound just returning. I want to know what is going on here, and how I can perminantly fix this.
I've searched the wikis, used the ALSA section of the wiki a lot, checked a lot of the commands it's suggested, my card seems to be loaded even when there's no sound, everything. This is my last shot, so I'm coming here hoping that I can get this issue fixed once and for all.
Any advice and suggestions are greatly welcome, thanks.
