Hybrid Graphics on Archlinux

I have an Asus UL80Vt which has a hybrid graphics system (Intel X4500 and Nvidia G210M).  I've been using the open-source xf86-video-intel and nvidia-g210m-acpi (which is to power off the discrete video card).  Are there any ways, though, to power off either card so that I can have decent acceleration when using nvidia and a long battery life when using intel?  I know that linux has long had problems with hybric graphics system, which, as far as I know, can only work properly on Windows 7.  I only found webpages talking about shutting down the discrete video cards after googling a bit.

I am not a programmer, but can X be configured to use two sets of config files?  Maybe we can do this way: substitute the original x config file with one that incorporates nvidia, then blacklist intel driver in modprobe, reboot and have discrete video card working properly.  In the same way we can get Intel card working.  Is it possible?

P.S. I don't have the option to switch between video cards in BIOS.

Re: Hybrid Graphics on Archlinux

I have the same laptop and have been waiting for a fix also. I tried modifying Xorg among other things, but I wasn't able to get anything working. I'm stuck with the g210m-acpi fix for now. Looks like hope is around the corner though: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=96142

It sounds like you've researched it, but there are a few other threads here (plus others if you search for ul30 and ul50) in case you've missed them:

Re: Hybrid Graphics on Archlinux

Looks like somebody has a solution for Lenovo W500 (GMA 4500 plus ATI Radeon 3650).
