Re: different versions of Xorg for different kernels

You can use different versions of xorg, regardless of the kernel u r using (if there are no dep's issues with DDX and kernel gpu/igp driver).

Check this out (Running your new stack section)

Re: different versions of Xorg for different kernels

First of all, thank you combuster for the response.

Well, to be more specific:

I'd like to use combination of let's say 2.6.27-lts kernel + Xorg 7.3 or Xorg 7.4 in order to be able to install Ati proprietary drivers - version 9.3 for my Radeon 9600. Is this possible and safe at the same time?

From the link you put, it seems to me that it's not so easy, so I'd like to ask you very kindly to write me an easier step-by-step guide to do that. I'm not that advanced...

Thank you a lot for your time.

Re: different versions of Xorg for different kernels

Obviously I have no idea how combuster will respond to your request, but in general requests for easy step-by-step guides to anything are discouraged here in the forum. Arch users are expected to take some initiative with regards to the issues they want to solve. In other words, if it seems to you that this is not so easy, you put your head down and learn about it, find out as much as you can, make your first few attempts to create a working solution - and only then return here with any additional questions.

As you have described yourself as "not that advanced", I'd like to suggest an alternative approach i.e. two separate Arch installations, one with the lts kernel and catalyst, the other with the stock kernel and current xorg.
