Can't login to Boot CD

I'm trying to install ArchLinux on an older machine. P2 450Mhz 256mb RAM. But when I get to the point where it asks me to login as root to start the install it just gives me a message which says " Login Incorrect" when I typr "root" then press enter. It repeats "Login Incorrect" 5 times then returns to where you type in a username. Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Can't login to Boot CD

that could happen for two reasons:
1) the image was corrupted and you didn't check it to see if is matching md5/sha1
2) not enough ram

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

I tried using the core install instead and it didn't work either. I assume I wasn't unlucky enough to get two image files corrupted so then I assume it's the ram. Oh well, I'll just try another distro. Thanks for the help!
