I installed Arch yesterday, configured X windows with Xfce4 and everything seems to function fine.
I have access to my hard drive to my optical drive and even to usb flash memory stick.
I decided to check Dmesg which I believe to be the output from the kernel at boot up and the only thin I notice that might be an issue is :
Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 43339
sr 5:0:0:0: [sr0] Result: hostbyte=0x00 driverbyte=0x08
sr 5:0:0:0: [sr0] Sense Key : 0x5 [current]

end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 346712

Which is repeated numerous times. sr0 is the Sata DVD but my question is what is this telling me?
System is a I7 930 on GA-x58a-udr3 motherboard with 6 Gb of RAM, 1 TB Western Digital SATA3 drive with an LG SATA DVD.
thanks in advance

I kept researching this and found that the message is the result of the archlinux disc that was in the cd tray.
When it is out there are no issues in the boot up messages.
And since the disc was readable it must be something with the way my iMac burned the image.

yes, that's the arch way: do some research, answer your own questions, and post back !
