So last night i was trying to get mpd working in gnome with no success. Though my sound was working normally before that. So i ended up trying to install mpd-pulse, which installed pulseaudio. It didn't work, so i removed it and the deps.
Today i wake up to no sound at all. So i booted into windows to make sure there was nothing wrong with the hardware, and it works fine in there. So, i checked all my levels with alsamixer and tried reinstalling alsa-utils etc. Still no sound, and no errors upon booting either. So i'm guessing it's probably some crap left behind by pulseaudio. So i tried removing ~/Pulse and /tmp/pulse but still not getting any sound.
Afaik i never had pulseaudio installed before, not according to my pacman log anyway.
Here's the output of lsmod

This is driving me insane, been at it about 2 hours now and almost ready to just nuke it and reinstall
Oh and i'm using an Audigy 2 ZS which has worked perfectly for years in linux.
Dunno if this has anything to do with it, but i noticed this in dmesg:
EMU10K1_Audigy 0000:03:07.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 22 (level, low) -> IRQ 22
Installing spdif_bug patch: SB Audigy 2 ZS [SB0350]

I'd check the output from a media player (e.g., mplayer) invoked from within a shell. Does it seem to play? Does it show anything unusual?

Nope no errors from VLC or Rhythmbox.
Though i noticed in the volume mixer, i now have 2 devices, which i don't think i had before...
Usually i'd have my webcam or usb headset plugged in, but they're not atm, just my soundcard.

Try running 'alsaconf' as root and follow the prompts.
