KDE to LXDE

hey guys,

i installed arch linux on a different system last night, this time with lxde instead of kdemod, which is what i normally use. my biggest problem seems to be with plug n play devices.

when i was using kde and i wanted to get my headset to work i just added

KERNEL=="pcmC[D0-9cp]*", ACTION=="add", PROGRAM="/bin/sh -c 'K=%k; K=$${K#pcmC}; K=$${K%%D*}; echo defaults.ctl.card $$K > /etc/asound.conf; echo defaults.pcm.card $$K >>/etc/asound.conf'"
KERNEL=="pcmC[D0-9cp]*", ACTION=="remove", PROGRAM="/bin/sh -c 'echo defaults.ctl.card 0 > /etc/asound.conf; echo defaults.pcm.card 0 >>/etc/asound.conf'"

to /etc/udev/rules.d/00-local.rules and the headset worked fine. when i plugged it in, all sound switched over to the headset, when i unplugged it all sound switched back over to the normal speakers. i've done this in lxde, but i still cannot get sound from the headset.

the other device i'm having problems with is a webcam. in kde when i plugged in the webcam it just worked, no drivers needed. i'm not sure how to use the webcam in lxde.

thanks for your time

Re: KDE to LXDE

The simplest way to get a perfect LXDE install is to put it on top of KDE Minimal Install. For the price of some extra disk space you get an otherwise lightweight and trouble free environment. Quick and dirty? Sure big_smile !

Xfce is a lightweight solution no longer, unfortunately. LXDE is still slim. Besides, some KDE apps just can't be beaten.
