I was monitoring top the other day and noticed netstat was defunct and in a zombie state, well I didn't think much of it untill I rebooted yesterday and noticed the same thing happening.
Here's what I mean.
If some other people could check their top to see if the same is happening for them that'd be great.

*shrug*
I don't have netstat running anywhere. Whenever I use it, I generally just call it once from a command line and check the output...

It's caused by evolution. It goes away when you kill all running evolution components after closing evolution and then killing the remaining parts with /opt/gnome/libexec/evolution/*/killev

Hah, I don't have ANYTHING gnome related installed.
Care to try again?

Hm, killing X (after two days of usage) seems to have killed it away.
This is pretty odd.
EDIT: And suddenly after issuing the command it comes back.
EDIT2: It only becomes a defunct process when the command is issued in X.
Weird..

using evolution with mozilla-nss for my IMAP/SSL, the bug is in NSS, so that's why evolution is also having this problem

Anyone still have this problem? I gather it must be from firefox as I don't have evolution installed.
