Hi all,
New to arch but not linux.
I've followed the wiki for installing the AMD Catalyst driver so I'm sure I've done it correctly for Arch, but after entering my password in GDM, the screen flickers a few times - there are black bars covering about 1/4-1/3 of the screen at the bottom, top and middle of the screen. This also happens while using EVE under wine (flickers on loading and using the options box).
xorg.conf is what "aticonfig --initial" created, without xorg.conf there is no flicker but screen res isn't correct and the opensource driver is fine expect the rather poor 3d performance.
I've tired fixing the screen res and turning EDID off as well.
Card is a Radeon HD 3650.
help!!!

Does it do this if you don't use gdm? Try removing it from the DAEMONS array in /etc/rc.conf. Then just enter X by typing startx after boot.
I take it you know how to this, but just in case.

Hi,
Thanks, I hadn't thought of disabling GDM, but the same thing happens without GDM.
I'm sure its something to do with the ATI drivers. I'm also considering a 32bit install, as wine isn't 64bit yet.

Maybe try xf86-video-ati?

EDIT: I use that instead of Catalyst with my ati card.
