I need help installing fglrx

I just installed a fresh install of Arch Linux x64, and I want to use the fglrx drivers because I heard they have better power saving support than the open source drivers.

So I completely installed Arch, and started working on installing fglrx. Following the beginners guide, I first installed xorg, and then mesa. Then I installed catalyst from the AUR, and then it said to install lib32-catalyst-utils, so I did.

That looked like everything you needed to do, so next I tried to test X by running xterm. When it started, the screen started to get all weird and 'fuzzy'. I don't really know how to explain it. It kind of looked like there were 2 or 3 grey bars that went across the screen with a black background. Then inbetween the grey bars, it flickered different shades of grey. That's about as good of an explanation I can think of. If you guys would like a pic, I can get you one.

So how can I fix this? I'm running an ASUS K70AB laptop. It has an ATI HD 4570 Mobility GPU.

Re: I need help installing fglrx

Did you follow the wiki page on installing Catalyst? http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ATI_Catalyst

I don't believe the beginner's guide fully covers installing it.

The biggest things you seem not to be doing in your post is loading the fglrx module (modprobe fglrx and then add it to rc.conf) and configuring X for the driver (aticonfig --initial)
