I am not sure what I did wrong. I am running this inside of VMware, and I installed the nvidia 96xx drivers (I have the 9300gs graphics card). Or, is this wrong because VMware doesn't use hardware graphics cards, it uses a build it graphics unit? I am not sure if this is a VMware problem or my problem with drivers. I will post the results from the error log, xinitrc and my xorg config. Any help would be great~ thanks

Install the VMWare driver not the nVidia one. You probably don't need a xorg.conf either.

I'll try that after work. I hope it's that and not something more complicated

Thanks, somehow I missed that. I was using the 'newbies' guide for normal installations and it didn't hint at users that were installing on VMware should see the VMware guide. Or did it? If it didn't maybe someone can add the line in, so VMware users don't use the normal installation guide for the xserver
I have started to try the VMware x server sections. Should I uninstall xorg and the nvidia drivers and start from the top just to be safe?
