[Solved] Cannot burn CD's with LG drive on new system

Arch x86_64 (up-to-date) on a Zotac GF-8200-C-E miniITX motherboard, Athlon II X2 240 CPU with an LG SATA GH22NS50 DVD+-RW drive. The drive reads CD's fine, but cannot burn anything successfully. The drive works fine on a WinXP system. I have tried burning as root with bashburn, cdrecord, and xfburn, to no avail. I have also tried changing the SATA section in my BIOS from IDE to AHCI to no avail and have tried various media. The drive has the latest firmware installed. Part of my cdrecord log is below - showing the errors:

There are both sense errors and wodim errors above. Below is relevant output from "lspci -v":

Re: [Solved] Cannot burn CD's with LG drive on new system

I suggest you to use original cdrecord (not cdrkit).

pacman -Rnd cdrkit
yaourt -S cdrtools --aur

kfgz: thanks for the input. I tried your suggestion, but the burn still fails, this time with slightly different errors from cdrecord:

Re: [Solved] Cannot burn CD's with LG drive on new system

I found some solutions on google

http://osdir.com/ml/audio.cd-record/200 … 00106.html
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions … ror-79353/

I think you should search for solutions based on this error message

Input/output error. write_g1: scsi sendcmd: no error

Re: [Solved] Cannot burn CD's with LG drive on new system

Tried your suggestions, to no avail. I am beginning to suspect a kernel bug from my research. Other users experienced same with certain kernel versions - and apparently an upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04 from its previous version fixed the problem. I believe the Ubuntu kernel is different to our current one, but will do some more research and try some different kernels and distros to see what happens.

Re: [Solved] Cannot burn CD's with LG drive on new system

What did you try to burn? If it is the same image (cue/bin) that you're trying to burn, I would suggest to try something else.

Since I switched from cdrkit to cdrtools, I have never had any problems burning files, images, music or whatever...

Zl.

Re: [Solved] Cannot burn CD's with LG drive on new system

I tried a number of different ISO's - same errors.

Re: [Solved] Cannot burn CD's with LG drive on new system

The last update I did to my system 2 weeks ago, to kernel 2.6.34 seems to have solved this burning issue (pun intended). I am unable to burn a normal CD at anything faster than 4x but I will treat that as a different issue to solve.

Re: [Solved] Cannot burn CD's with LG drive on new system

The only way i could burn on my sata dvd drive was add a line in /etc/fstab.
/dev/sr0                /media/dvd     auto     ro,user,noauto,unhide   0      0

Sorry  for the edit. Forgot the 'auto'. Going by memory sucks when you're getting older.
