Quicktime (via gecko) works in Epiphany and Firefox, but not in Chrome

The gecko-mediaplayer is working in epiphany and firefox, but not in Chrome.

Any ideas what to do? Anyone know of a plugin that works with Chrome?

Try using the totem-plugin. It works for me at least on the Apple Trailers site.

totem plugin isn't working for me. I get a gstreamer error:

GStreamer encountered a general stream error.

Does this happen on any particular page? Does it happen with any browser? Which gstreamer packages do you have installed?

After install totem-plugin, gstreamer0.10-bad-plugins and gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg, chromium can work on the Apple Trailers site.
But, does anyone know why gecko-mediaplayer can't work on chromium?
As I remember, the gecko-mediaplayer can work on chromium at the beginning of May.

I don't actually use Chromium normally, but Firefox. Chromium is just my "backup browser".
I was messing around and found that gecko-mediaplayer didn't even show up in "about:plugins", so I got interested and wanted to contribute, sorry for not having a valid solution for you!

Totem-plugin with all the gstreamer plugins works here (dwm). Though I'm looking forward to gecko-mediaplayer working again....

Yeah i want gecko-mediaplayer to work in Chrome because the gnome-mplayer app seems way than just the plain "Movie Player"! I'd prefer not to have both on my system if i can just use Gecko in chrome.

Let me see if I can get totem working...

Re: Quicktime (via gecko) works in Epiphany and Firefox, but not in Chrome

Alright so I've re-installed totem-plugin. The good news is i'm getting the same 4 errors in all the browsers, so i know totem is ready for all browsers.

FIrst error:
The quicktime troubleshooting ([apple.com/quicktime/troubleshooting/ apple.com/quicktime/troubleshooting/]) page shows the little image that says "QuickTime successfully installed" but the little animated Logo that should appear to the right doesn't show. When I click the in the empty black space (where totem is running), totem gives me this error message:

An error occurred
The playback of this movie requires a MPEG-4 Video decoder plugin which is not installed.

So perhaps this has something to do with gstreamer? I have ffmpeg installed as a dep for cinelerra as well as xvid.

---

Second error:
On any of the apple.com videos ([apple.com/iphone/features/ like the ones here]) I am getting this error as mentioned already:

An error occurred.
GStreamer encountered a general stream error.

---

Third error:
For older quicktime videos, apparently I need the QDM plugin apparently because [americangirl.com/fun/tips/index.php?section=quicktime this page] gives me the following error:

An error occurred
The playback of this movie requires a QDesign Music (QDM) 2 decoder plugin which is not installed.

Any idea how to install QDM support or what package it is? Although it's probably not necessary as most videos do not use this old format anymore.

---

Fourth error:
And the last error message that i've received on [fulmediainteractive.com/qttest.asp this page] was interesting:

An error ocurred
The playback of this movie requires a text/html decoder plugin which is not installed.

Any idea what i need for this?

---

These are the gstreamer packages i currently have installed:

[root@rocketship ~]# pacman -Q | grep gstreamer
gstreamer0.10 0.10.29-1
gstreamer0.10-base 0.10.29-1
gstreamer0.10-base-plugins 0.10.29-1
gstreamer0.10-good 0.10.22-1
gstreamer0.10-good-plugins 0.10.22-1
gstreamer0.10-python 0.10.18-1

Shall i install the gstreamer-bad-plugins like and gstreamer-ffmpeg like planykao said?

Just install gstreamer-ffmpeg

Re: Quicktime (via gecko) works in Epiphany and Firefox, but not in Chrome

After installing the gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg package, the first error and the third error above were solved! Thanks anonymous_user!

Trailers and videos still won't work on apple.com (Second error) and I still have the fourth error.

Re: Quicktime (via gecko) works in Epiphany and Firefox, but not in Chrome

I installed gstreamer0.10-ugly-plugins but nothing changes. The first error and [b]second error[/b above] still persist.

UPDATE: I just tested it and the ugly-plugins package is required for WMA format media, so install it!

Re: Quicktime (via gecko) works in Epiphany and Firefox, but not in Chrome

after installing gstreamer0.10-bad-plugins, the second error above was solved! all videos/movies/trailers on apple.com now work. smile
The only thing is there is no GUI unless you enter full screen mode.. So just to pause a video, you have to enter fullscreen mode! sad
I want gecko to work in chrome!

I thing the Arch Devs should include the gstreamer0.10-bad-plugins and gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg packages a dependencies for totem so users will have quicktime working from the start. :?:

So what's up with the fourth error? Any idea what package might i need for that (if any)?

Re: Quicktime (via gecko) works in Epiphany and Firefox, but not in Chrome

When i installed gnome (and likewise totem by default) i received no such message from pacman telling me of these optional packages.

I think that having the bad-plugins and ffmpeg packages included by default would be good to help people avoid hunting threads like these down. Most people will need to use quicktime, so why not save them the trouble?

Any idea how i might be able to solve the last error?

An error ocurred
The playback of this movie requires a text/html decoder plugin which is not installed.

Maybe you could try changing the user agent to fool the website?

Re: Quicktime (via gecko) works in Epiphany and Firefox, but not in Chrome

I've gotten apple.com trailers working, so need for an alternate user agent. I'm just having problems playing this small sample:
http://fulmediainteractive.com/qttest.asp

Does it work for you anonymous-user? And thanks for the help!

Re: Quicktime (via gecko) works in Epiphany and Firefox, but not in Chrome

The file does not play because it doesn't exist. I guess when the plugin tries to download the mov, it gets a file of type text/html hence the error.

Re: Quicktime (via gecko) works in Epiphany and Firefox, but not in Chrome

Well in the link above something happened (after the new chrome update or gecko update??) and it was causing hangups in chrome so i guess they've blacklisted it until a fix comes out.
