Network Issues After Update

Today I decided to do a full pacman -Syu and I received a bunch of updates which it asked me to install. I went ahead as normal and everything seemed to install fine. However, upon rebooting the machine I found that the internet connection was acting strangely. All pings performed to urls seem to fail (although the addresses seem to resolve correctly) but I can ping perfectly within the network to the router as well as the loopback. All other computer on the network are functioning fine so I know this is not a router issue. One other odd note, whenever I issue another pacman -Syu, pacman is able to reach out and compare the local databases for the packages with the ones hosted on the arch file servers. On a final note my ethernet controller is the Realtek RTL8111/8168B PCI express card, my kernel is ver. 2.6.33  and I am also able to ssh into it from other computer within the network. Any ideas as to what could be going on or what I should try to do to fix this?

Thanks in advance

EDIT: it turned to to be an issue with moblock.
