ALSA Sound 2 cards at the same time

Alright, so I have onboard sound and I also have a USB sound device (m-audio mobilepre). What I would like to be able to do is have sound come through both devices at the same time.
I know you can do this with Pulseaudio but PA ends up being more trouble then its worth for me.

Any ideas?
