[SOLVED] Xorg issue.

Hey, I've just finished following the instructions in the beginners guide to try and get Xorg up and running and I've run into a few error's, even after doing the troubleshooting bit at the end. I've spent a few hours trying to read around the issue but I can't think of what needs doing. In the end I thought to finally resort to

wgetpaste

to copy relevant config files and logs here:
~/.xinitrchttp://paste.pocoo.org/show/225101
/etc/X11/xorg.conf : http://paste.pocoo.org/show/225102
/var/log/Xorg.0.log : http://paste.pocoo.org/show/225103
/var/log/Xorg.0.log.old : http://paste.pocoo.org/show/225104

From what I can see, the main errors in /var/log/Xorg.0.log are:

Line 105: (EE) Failed to load /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libdri2.so
Line 107: (EE) Failed to load module "dri2" (loader failed, 7)
Line 111: (EE) Failed to load /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libdri.so
Line 113: (EE) Failed to load module "dri" (loader failed, 7)

There are a few warnings too, mostly about fonts, but looking through the beginners wiki I don't think I've got to that point yet.

Does anybody know what I've missed? I'm stumped. I've gone over the config files several times now.

Re: [SOLVED] Xorg issue.

He is using nvidia with the proprietary drivers and his card is a 8400 GS . What you get with

ls /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libdri*

Try to reinstall xorg-server if that files dont exist.

Re: [SOLVED] Xorg issue.

When I do

ls /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libdri*

I get:

/usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libdri.so

and

/usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libdri2.so

Re: [SOLVED] Xorg issue.

Some progress (hopefully): I reinstalled xorg-server and now when I use

startx

as non-root user it gives me a black screen, with a white box with command line in it in the top left corner of the screen, the rest is black space and I have an X for a cursor. Here is the log http://paste.pocoo.org/show/225148

Out of interest I tried startx as root (probably not the wisest of things) but I got a screen with a small clock in the top right corner, and then two command lines in white rectangle boxes that go down the screen. I took the log for this too: http://paste.pocoo.org/show/225150 (but I think they're pretty much the same).

A quick glance at them both and I can see that

(EE) Failed to load /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libdri2.so

,

(EE) Failed to load module "dri2" (loader failed, 7)

,

(EE) Failed to load /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libdri.so

, and

(EE) Failed to load module "dri" (loader failed, 7)

are still there. :S

My touch-pad mouse, USB mouse and stuff seemed to be working though.

I'm hoping what I've observed just now is closer to or indeed a working bare Xorg, I've not seen one before

[EDIT] I installed GNOME in the end, but it works anyway, for the most part I now have a running Arch system I can get to using =]

I hope to try and get this sorted and KDE on soon but I am about to go on a field trip for my Biology degree to Ireland and I don't know if there is internet where I will be going, so if I stop replying it's likely I can't reply.

.
