Compositing in kde without kwin

Kwin is awful for me, with or without compositing after 15 mins of use the entire desktop becomes unusable because of unresponsiveness. So i use other WMs like xfwm4, openbox etc with kde(I dont like compiz). But with those WMs activating compositing does not make the panel transparent, so is the case with cairo-compmgr and xcompmgr. So is there a way to make the panel transparent with WMs other that kwin and compiz?

edit: It seems some plasma themes(very few) to become transparent when using xcompmgr, but some like default air dont.

Re: Compositing in kde without kwin

Compiz works very fine for me. I dosnt get slow with the time, have a lot of plugins (more or less usable wink ) and it supports KDE very good (since the new Version).

So Taskbar is transparent, the tray works good and so on

Re: Compositing in kde without kwin

What about the pager?
With compiz the kde one just reports one desktop.

go into  ccsm -> general options -> Desktop size and change vertical/horizontal to your needs. The important bit is the number of desktops setting.

Re: Compositing in kde without kwin

Well using compiz for the time being, waiting for kde devs to pay attention to users like us and improve kwin's performance.
