bfs + pae = slow system after suspend

Hi,

i'm using a custom kernel patched with -CK (and -ARCH) on both my laptop and htpc.
The kernels run great.
Since the machines both use 32bit kernels I've decided yesterday to enable PAE to use the full 4 GB Ram i have on both machines.

Here comes the problem:
With the new kernel installed on my laptop, the system becomes very slow after a suspend. Everything takes approx. three to four times as long.
The problem is nonexistent on the HTPC.

Both CK and PAE alone run fine on the laptop. Only the combination causes the system to be slow after a suspend.

Can you give me some ideas on how to isolate the problem further?
