Running calibre on Arch64 and the GUI comes up, but absolutely no text shows up. I have tried installing more fonts, and fixing pango, and removing/reinstalling calibre. I have no idea. running calibre -v shows no text and if i run calibre --redirect-console-output, the box that popups has no text in it either. I have no idea what to do from here.
Here is my only terminal output:
(<unknown>:14092): Pango-WARNING **: failed to choose a font, expect ugly output. engine-type='PangoRenderFc', script='common'

updated and now I get the same output plus:
(<unknown>:14378): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme directory clear/64x64 of theme AwOken II has no size field
(<unknown>:14378): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme directory clear/48x48 of theme AwOken II has no size field
(<unknown>:14378): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme directory clear/32x32 of theme AwOken II has no size field
(<unknown>:14378): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme directory clear/22x22 of theme AwOken II has no size field
(<unknown>:14378): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme directory clear/16x16 of theme AwOken II has no size field
but switching themes gets rid of that error and doesn't bring text back. thinking i am going to take this upstream. will post back if i get any good response.

this is a link to the upstream: http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showth … post981956, and yes, I have fonts install. corefont, liberation tahoma, the whole nine yards. I doubt it is pango.

okay, it seems if you have a different font set in "application font" in gnome-appearence, pango apps freak out. changing it just sans got rid of the error and calibre shows fonts now.
