[solved]disable taskbar in xfce4

How do I disable the taskbar in xfce4? I have the plugin so that I can have the taskbar on the panel (yes, like in windows), but then I don't want to have the other taskbar (the one that is usually at the top of the screen) at the same time. So how do I get rid of it? I've read what it says on the xfce.org about that, but I can't find the files. I don't want to use the method with the session saving since last I used that I messed up allt of shit...

And also, how do I (when I've finished tweaking all the menues after my whishes) disable the regular user to make changes to it? Meaning only root can change stuff...?

/opt/xfce4/etc/xdg/xfce4/xinitrc should be the system wide file.

Re: [solved]disable taskbar in xfce4

i suppose you'r running the xfce4 session manager - to diasble the taskbar you have to edit the session file in ~/.cache/session -  for my system ~/.cache/session/xfce4-session-local:0
you then have to remove the Client where Client_CloneProgram is set to the taskbar and then you also have to change Count=3.
dunno why this isn't done automaticly
for me the file looks like:

[Session: Default]
Client0_ClientId=117f000001000110762397300000007630000
Client0_Hostname=local/local
Client0_CloneCommand=xfwm4,--display,:0.0
Client0_CurrentDirectory=/home/police
Client0_Priority=20
Client0_Program=xfwm4
Client0_RestartCommand=xfwm4,--display,:0.0,--sm-client-id,117f000001000110762397300000007630000
Client0_UserId=police
Client1_ClientId=117f000001000110762397300000007630001
Client1_Hostname=local/local
Client1_CloneCommand=xfce4-panel,--display,:0.0
Client1_CurrentDirectory=/home/police
Client1_Priority=40
Client1_Program=xfce4-panel
Client1_RestartCommand=xfce4-panel,--display,:0.0,--sm-client-id,117f000001000110762397300000007630001
Client1_UserId=police
Client2_ClientId=117f000001000110762397400000007630003
Client2_Hostname=local/local
Client2_CloneCommand=xfdesktop,--display,:0.0
Client2_CurrentDirectory=/home/police
Client2_Priority=35
Client2_Program=xfdesktop
Client2_RestartCommand=xfdesktop,--display,:0.0,--sm-client-id,117f000001000110762397400000007630003
Client2_UserId=police
Count=3
LegacyCount=0
Screen0_ActiveWorkspace=0
LastAccess=1107624017

Re: [solved]disable taskbar in xfce4

The easiest way to disable the taskbar in XFCE-4 while using the session manager is this:

find the process "xftaskbar4" and kill it.  Close out XFCE and "save session".  Next time you fire up XFCE, it will be gone.

I managed to get rid of it, thanks! Another thing I don't want is the session manager, that restarts every program I was working with last time, how can I do this, and is it safe?

Yeah, the only reason I use the "session-manager" is for the "logout" options, like "reboot" and "shutdown".

You can just copy over the processes from "startxfce4" to your "~/.xinitrc" file, omitting the "xfce4-session" task.

Or, an easier way might be to copy the "/opt/xfce4/etc/xdg/xfce4/xinitrc" file into your "~/.config/xfce4/" directory.  Then remove lines 71-84.

safe? you don't need that dumb thing.  I only use it for the "logout" prompt like I said.  I'd rather not have my old session restored each time anyways, like you want now.  If you ever want to get it back, just delete the "xinitrc" file in "~/.config/xfce4" and restart.  It will pull the defaults back on it's own.
