[SOLVED] Problem booting 2.6.34 and Dell Precision T3500/T3400/+

Adding this here just for reference, as others may encounter the same problem. After the latest upgrade (to 2.6.34) I had trouble booting the kernel - it claimed that it had trouble finding the root partition (don't remember the exact message). Anyway, seems like there is something going on with the SATA adapter/controller(?) on these machines.

Found a solution to it here: http://us.generation-nt.com/2-6-34-rc1- … 40482.html

[ 5.464777] ahci: SSS flag set, parallel bus scan disabled
[ 6.472019] ahci 0000:00:1f.2: controller reset failed (0xffffffff)
[ 6.478474] ahci 0000:00:1f.2: PCI INT C disabled
[ 6.483349] ahci: probe of 0000:00:1f.2 failed with error -5

Fix/workaround: Add "pci=nocrs" to your kernel line in grub.

Thank you very much for posting this.  I had the same problem after I upgraded my kernel this morning and I thought it was gonna be a long day fixing this.  Your suggestion/fix works for me.  smile

Glad to hear it was helpful to you! Kernel panic in the morning is not a good way to start any day wink
