I want to make sure my understanding is correct with this before I go any furthur and royally ruin anything. I'd like to get Archup to notify me of updates either once a week or once a day, haven't decided yet. Had a read of cron wiki page, which shows how to set up user specific crontabs, but for system stuff, root can be used, which is located in /var/spool/cron/root which points to the folders /etc/cron.hourly and- .daily - .weekly - .monthly, and will run whatever is in those folders. So then If I copy the hourly.example file to /etc/cron.daily or /etc/cron.weekly and change the username field would it work then? My reasoning says so but as I've just seen there are quite a few cron folders from cron.d to the hourly, weekly, daily, monthly, folders and seemingly more than one way to automate these jobs.
