Kernel upgrade broke geforce 9500m gs

Hello everyone,

The issue is with my Asus G1Sn-b1 and it's nvidia 9500m gs graphics card.  When I try to load any module for it I get an error saying that module is not available.  This happens for the nvidia drivers (both the current and testing versions) and nouveau.  I get the following error when I try to load X.
From kernel.log (when using nvidia drivers):

Jun 24 23:21:59 computer kernel: wlan0: no IPv6 routers present
Jun 24 23:25:06 computer kernel: NVRM: This PCI I/O region assigned to your NVIDIA device is invalid:

Jun 24 23:26:25 computer kernel: nouveau: probe of 0000:01:00.0 failed with error -12

The part I find strangest is that the vesa drivers work and so does the framebuffer.

Researching the errors came up with a problem from a few years back, something about memory remapping in the kernel, or a lack there of (something I no know nothing about).  However this issue was solved.  I seem to have ran into a problem that was fixed years back!  From what I understand it has something to do the 64 bit addresses and it can be solved if the graphics card is loaded into ram in a different spot (i.e. in the first 2 GB of ram)?  If this is so can I change that manually (some bioses supposedly have the ability too but mine does not)?
This can be fixed with a bios update but Asus doesn't seem to do those mad.  This one is way over my head sad.

Re: Kernel upgrade broke geforce 9500m gs

You're not alone. I have exactly the same problems on ASUS G1Sn. The only way i find is to physically remove 2GB memory out of laptop sad

Re: Kernel upgrade broke geforce 9500m gs

you can't use nvidia if you have nouveau and vice-versa. after installing nvidia from repos, reboot or rmmod nouveau because nvidia has a blacklist file for nouveau. same thing when using nouveau. be sure that nvidia is removed and reboot or rmmod nvidia

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

Re: Kernel upgrade broke geforce 9500m gs

I have no nouveau installed. This error happens only if i have 4GB RAM onboard. When i remove 2 of 4 GB RAM out, the problem is gone.

Re: Kernel upgrade broke geforce 9500m gs

I've made sure that nouveau and nvidia are not confilicting by blacklisting and removing so that only 1 of them is on the system at a time.

Re: Kernel upgrade broke geforce 9500m gs

Well it's nice to know I'm not alone in this.  I suppose for now I could build X for the lts kernel as it still works.  If anyone has an idea I would really appreciate it.
