Yaourt 100% CPU compressing file?

I'm not exactly sure if I should post this here or not, but my issue is that about I'd say 25 mins ago, I started dling the beta nvidia utils from the AUR with yaourt, and it's downloaded the 40mb ish file, and is to the part where it says it's compressing the package, I'm using a dual core CPU, and both CPU's have been at 100% since it started doing that. It's also been "compressing" for those 25 mins, this doesn't seem normal to me. Especially for as long as it's going. What should I do? Just wait for who knows how long, or close the terminal, and if I do that. Will it screw anything up?

killall yaourt and killall xz would be better than just closing the terminal.  Try building it uisng makepkg.

Re: Yaourt 100% CPU compressing file?

Well strangely enough, I went afk fro about 15 minutes or so and when I came back it was done compressing, and was acting normal. The only thing that was odd was that both CPU's where still at 100%, and continued to be at 100% after I finished with yaourt, and was just sitting at the desktop. I ended up rebooting, and it went back to normal. Very strange though.

When using multicore-aware algorithm all your cores will be at 100% to get the task done in the shortest time possible.
After they're done compressing, the load should go back to normal. You can test it w/ some other packages (small ones, so you don't have to wait for hours) to see if there's sth wrong.

Re: Yaourt 100% CPU compressing file?

Well, the only time "compressing package" has taken more than like 10 seconds with my average-ish dual core is when I was installing this like 600 MB game from AUR. Also on my Pentium 3 it takes a while tongue I'm guessing maybe some program was hogging all 100% of the CPU before you ran Yaourt, and then it didn't have much to work with while compressing it? I don't know, that rarely happens in Linux, unless Wine or Java is involved tongue That would explain why it was still 100% after it was done.

Re: Yaourt 100% CPU compressing file?

Thanks for all the replies, still haven't really figured out why it would do that. It said it was only 40ish megs, but it seemed to me when dling, the size was something like 40,000,000 or something like that. Maybe I'm just tired, but it seemed like that is a heck of alot more then 40 megs. Perhaps it was just a fluke. I don't think wine or java was involved, was just beta nvidia utils. Wasn't really running anything besides firefox either.
