Can I make a ransparent terminal (not just its background) in XFCE?
I'd like solid things like Midnight Commander to be alpha-blended as well. Is this possible?

If you want true transparency, you'll probably want either xcompmgr (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xcompmgr) or compiz (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Compiz).

better go to settings > Window Manager Tweaks > Compositer and enable display compositing there
