Hi!
I recently moved from ubuntu to arch linux.
I have GNOME 3 installed and pm-utils also. The problem is that I when I try to hibernate, all I get is a black screen with the cursor on the uper-left corner.
Any ideas?

Did you allocate a swap partition during setup? I can't remember exactly but I don't think the Arch Installer forces you to have swap space... however hibernate will not work without it.
Try:
# pm-hibernate
If that works, then your computer is just not recognizing your hibernate trigger (a button press, lid close, etc).
You didn't say if you installed acpi. You'll definitely need that:
# pacman -S acpi acpid
Then you can edit the /etc/acpi/handler.sh script and... well, that part is detailed in the wiki.
If you can't force it to hibernate, try forcing it to suspend:
# pm-suspend

I have the same issue on my laptop.
And its wery strange because:
Twice!!! (first time in my life (six years on linux)) it waked up after suspend into memory ... i haven't changed anything, and after that ... it's not working again. I don't get it. I'm suspecting my HW (especialy wifi), but I don't know what to do anymore.
I tried everything i can do. Spent hours searching the web, errorlogs ...
I must start again with blank mind. So, please, tell me what to do to get it working, from begening.
Using: latest up to date system - Kernel 3.0.6, Gnome 3.2, GDM, ... etc.
Ask me for logs, packages, versions ... anything that can help.
THX

@sarai I 've done all of it before but the result was the same...

It is almost certainly a module not suspending properly. Here is my own struggle to get the same problem fixed and what I had to do to figure it out. Your module might not be the same, but the process I used will probably work for you as well:

Man, You are like god for me now ... I tried same way before, but I was suspending only ehci_hdc, or somethink like that, ... I don't care anymore why this is working, because i spent too much time looking for solution.
Great ... many thanks. This solution suppose to be in some official manual.
My work is too much easier now ... how can I repay You?

Well mark it solved if it works for you.
@ spenat28 - hibernate is a different issue, and I don't use it. Here was my best effort to help someone with the same problem (unsuccessfully). You can look through it and see if something helps you:

Thanks for the write up. Went though the same process you did and could not find the module causing the issue Went and reread the two threads you link to and the very last post in the second thread stated that they just turned off the wireless switch on there laptop (thinkpad has a switch that will turn off bluetooth and WiFi to save battery) so what the heck I've tried every thing else so turned mine off (ThinkPad T410) bam suspend works the way it should.
Now unlike everyone else I have had working suspend on this laptop all along but in the last update it quit working (kernel 3.0.6) so I may just down grade when I get a chance and see if that fixes some of the other issues I'm having as well.
